The 2024 Florida State Championship was built on a back-course layout that ate the leaderboard alive. Long crossers, a battue presentation that drew comments at every squad break, and a transitional pair that swallowed the easy points from anyone who had not done their pre-event walk-through.
The course chairman and the registered competitors had set out to make this year's state shoot feel like a championship, and by Sunday the scoreboard told that story. Several names that would normally be in the top ten finished further down. A couple of regional shooters who came in unranked finished further up than anyone expected.
